According to a report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau, New Year’s Day is the most popular holiday for car thefts, with 2,347 vehicles taken from their rightful owners on the first day of 2010. The stats are based on data reported to the National Crime Information Center.
New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve were the fifth- and sixth-most popular holidays among car thieves, with 1,986 and 1,928 thefts occurring those days in 2010, respectively. Christmas Day is actually the least popular day of the year for car thefts, with only 1,361 thefts occurring.
